details

jewelry has the ability to completely alter the aesthetic of an outfit. it can also alter your mood! pieces can add color, dimension, and personality to your look. choose wisely!

my first spoon bracelet was given to me by my aunt when i was young. it remains on my wrist to this day.

a trip to argentina provided me with this delicate and wordly bracelet. it's always a good idea to wear something that can act as a conversation piece!

this belltone ring is a recent find from madewell . it's delicate and light to wear, but bold enough to be noticed on your hand.

one of my favorite pieces is this Lucky Brand statement necklace. it is colorful without looking pre-teen.

are you a sailor? neither am i. but i love this snap bracelet. it can add sophistication on a work day.

this was a find at Fossil. although it was a few years ago you may be able to find something similar here

home

i graduated from university and immediately moved to the big apple. in order to settle in i needed to make this place my home. regardless of the room, the view, or the roommates, it is possible to make any house a home- it involves bringing the 'you' into the space.

bring your comfort. for me that is a cashmere sweater that i can use for instant warmth- inside and out.

along with sweaters i need to keep a throw close to me. a soothing color and soft texture can make the most remote space feel more like a home.
for under $100 you can pick your favorite color from sferra's colorful collection

bring your scent. it is said that scents trigger memories- your most endearing perfume or candle will help you ease into the change.

whether it is a devotional or a romantic summer read, a book can work wonders on the brain.
a chapter can take your mind from stressed or sad to compelled and intrigued.

flowers are bright, inexpensive, and literally bring life into a space. make your living quarters lively with a fresh pick each week.

southern wedding

on saturday i attended a charming southern-inspired wedding in the mountains of north carolina. 'less is more' certainly applied here. wildflowers and personal decor made for a delightful wedding. keeping things simple is sometimes best.

wildflowers and burlap bows help keep the atmosphere in touch with nature.

candle light and bare wood tables

these wonderful works of art were brought from the family home in mississppi.
as a potter myself, i swooned over the earthy touches of these mccarty pieces.
monograms add personal touches. don't neglect the bride's new monogram.

it is important to keep up with details. the wedding program and personalized cocktail napkins reminded everyone at the bar of the importance of the event.

chalk boards are rustic and southern. as the reception progressed this board got much more attention. guests love to sign off with a personal touch.

this 'naked cake' was a beautifully simple way to keep the outdoor theme alive.

furniture on the lawn is a great addition to a wedding. it allows guests to comfortably gather and makes for a fun photography spot.

if walls could talk

the walls in your home say more about you than one might think. gallery walls are fabulous now more than ever. a nice gallery wall adds dimension, color, and personality to your space. with some minor work you can create a wonderful wall that speaks to your inner self.

i used pastels to draw this frenchie.
if you're creative draw one up. if not, head to Evelyn Henson's site to purchase a lovely print.
this simple frame was found here

i'm inspired by the simplicity of cotton.
add feminine touches to a print with a gold frame.

the space below the tv gets attention, too. place a trinket or two that matches the style of your gallery.

simple calligraphy will go a long way. choose your favorite quote and place it on top of colorful matting before framing.

a wall  as impersonal as a cafeteria if you don't add your own story. paint a regular frame with a bright color and add a photo of your favorite memories.
simple + bold will go a long way. scribble a word and add a thick frame for a polished look.

with a hammer and some diligence, it will all come together. don't forget to add some books underneath and some height above for the perfectly balanced look.

Patterns You Will Want

patterns are an accessory all their own. warm weather is the perfect excuse to wear as many colorful pattern combinations as possible. these patterns are calling your name this summer.

chambray is a must. chambray with polka dots is a perfect nod to the '50s.
pair with colorful shorts and casual shoes.

acid wash has made a comeback. don't be afraid to tune into your grunge style.

you need not be in hawaii to sport a tropical pattern. you'll attract all the right attention in a leafy smock.

you don't have to be a skipper to pull of the perfect nautical pattern. this style never fails to appear feminine, polished, and intentionally chic.

bare necessities

summer is just around the corner. the pollen is finally beginning to settle, the greenery has fully bloomed, and the heat is setting in. it's time to make a trade from the leather-paneled tuxedo pants to colored shorts and easy tees. that said, there a a few essentials that you need in your summer wardrobe.

a good chambray shirt will be your go-to. it is the easiest dress-up/dress-down piece. wear it with a long necklace to the office. tie up the front when you head to the pool.
you can buy this bella dahl chambray shirt here

a slight heel is infinitely more fem than a flat sandal. add some length to your legs and spring to your step.

going back to the days of 'The Sand Lot' these shoes are a classic. Pair them with denim shorts or even a casual sundress for a more laid-back feel.

strappy tops are universally flattering. the most feminine attributes can be subtly shown off.
